Hello! For our next #wewrite spotlight, meet Iowa Young Writers' Studio alum Robyn Henderson. As an active writer, Robyn attended the IYWS before coming to the University of Iowa to major in English and Creative Writing. We caught up with Robyn for a brief Q&A; see her answers below!

When do you plan to graduate/what are you studying?
I am currently a junior and I plan to graduate in May 2018. I am majoring in English and Creative Writing.

What are you doing now?
I am the fiction intern at The Iowa Review. I help with selecting stories for the short story contests that the magazine runs, as well as writing blog posts and working on social media presence. The best part is reading the submissions, and learning the nuances that make a good story great. I am also a member of the student radio station, KRUI-FM (Iowa City).

What did you gain the most from the Young Writers’ Studio?
The Young Writers’ Studio introduced me to constructive feedback. Before I went, I only wrote for myself, by myself, and the Studio showed me the value of workshopping and the suggestions and ideas that come out of it. It was nerve wracking, but beneficial, and the editing process that followed helped me to think about how and why I write characters the way I do.

What would you like to tell the world about the Young Writers’ Studio and the Frank N. Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing?
The Iowa Young Writers’ Studio is an amazing place. I met a lot of like-minded teens, who, like me, could talk about books, story structures and ideas for hours. It was so fulfilling to be around creative people my age, and see how they each had their own styles and specialties. It was the first time that I had had a sense of a writing community, and it really opened up a whole new world for me.
