Lifting the Glass: A Look Behind the Trick Mirror with Jia Tolentino

The Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing hosted Jia Tolentino as the 2019-2020 Visiting Writer-in-Residence.  Jia is a staff writer at The New Yorker and the author of the critically acclaimed essay collection Trick Mirror (recently named one of the most notable books of the year by The New York Times and a finalist for the National Book Critic Circle's prize for best first book). Formerly, she was the deputy editor of Jezebel and contributing editor at The Hairpin.

Certificate Student Gets Published: Skye Corken

Writing Certificate student Skye Corken has had her first piece of writing published. She wrote an article for the University of Iowa College of Public Health on alumna Carolyne Bennett's work with the CDC. We are extremely proud of her and wish her further success in writing!

How Iowa is Helping Young People Find Their Voice: IYWP on BTN

The Big Ten Network recently published an article and began airing a commercial about the Iowa Youth Writing Project, part of the Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing. The IYWP does great work in our community, helping K-12 students find their voices through creative writing.

Nation Seeking Student Writing Fellows

The Nation is accepting applications for two Student Writing Fellows. This year-long program will give two college students the opportunity to regularly write for TheNation.com and to work with Nation staff members to sharpen the skills needed for a successful career in journalism.
