Undergraduate Certificate in Writing
With top-ranked graduate programs like the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and the Nonfiction Writing Program rooted here on campus, it’s no surprise that the University of Iowa is known as The Writing University. Nestled in the only American town honored with the designation of being a UNESCO City of Literature, the UI has added to its rich literary tradition by offering the Undergraduate Certificate in Writing Program, enabling students in all majors to benefit from the wide-ranging writing programs and resources available on campus. By pursuing a concentration in writing related to their majors, their career goals, or their personal interests, students in this certificate program have the opportunity to develop their skills (creatively, academically, and professionally) by recognizing that strong writing is still the most necessary and sought-after strength a college graduate can have. Administered by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and housed in the Frank N. Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing, the Writing Certificate is open to all students regardless of major or area of study.
We are excited to announce that the Certificate in Writing is now available online. Designed with the intention of reaching students who are not able to attend courses on campus, our online program allows nondegree-seeking, professional, or distance education participants the opportunity to take advantage of the University of Iowa’s impressive culture of writing from anywhere in the world.
