The University of Iowa Alumni and Friends Flash Writing Contest is a timed, online short story competition. We’ll give you a genre, a character (e.g. bus driver), and a specific object to incorporate into your story. You’ll get 48 hours and 1,000 words to come up with the rest.

The five age categories include:

Grades 3 & 4
Grades 5 & 6
Grades 7 & 8
Grades 9–12
Adult

So, tell your fellow Hawkeyes, and check out the website on Friday, January 15 for complete contest details and your selection of writing prompts. The top entry in each age category will be featured on the UI Flash Writing Contest website and receive an Iowa-themed writing prize pack and more.
